I know I haven't blogged in a while, well really blogged and not just pictures or links...I'm trying to get back on track.

The pigs caught up with us this week and we've decided we definitely don't like them, and they are not welcome here. The girls and myself all came down with H1N1 and while the girls had fevers and coughs I certainly had it the worst (which is good) and thought I was knocking on Heaven's door yesterday. My fevers almost topped out at 104 and made me feel absolutely terrible. Today the girls are much better and while I'm not 100% I am certainly feeling MUCH better than yesterday. Thanks to this miracle drug:

While it's been a few miserable days, it's great to know we can't get this strain of the virus again.

I know, I know...some of this will be repetitive for you if you are friends with me on Facebook...it's hard not to duplicate - but I do have several people who check my blog who don't even know what Facebook is...the ones living under a rock. So, as many of you probably already know, I have a passion for Photography. I've always done it as a hobby, and have always wanted to further what I know about the camera, and about the perfect shot. Capturing the moments we want to remember years from now.

So, I stole a friend of mine, Rachel, to be my model and I was so pleased with what we got.

I'd love some more "models" - families, children, pregnancy, seniors...I'll keep working my way up. Let me know if you're interested in helping me out!

Today, I'm counting my blessings first thing this morning, because I am beyond blessed, so grateful for the life I have been given and not taking it for granted.

These are only a few...or I could be here all day, and let's face it...a little 5 year old has to go to school and her Momma & Sissy have plans!

This is so cliche, but my greatest blessing is the fact that my parents raised me in a home where morals were a high standard and God was the head of our home. Therefore, I strive to make the right decisions, to help my kids make better decisions, and to be a better person every day.
I have an awesome husband, we love each other for who we are, not changing each other into who we'd "like" one another to be. There will never be a question in our minds if we will be together forever, nothing but death could separate us.
I have some stinkin' cute kids who make me laugh, cry, scream and gasp all in the same minute. I'm grateful that for whatever reason God decided I would be best to be their mom. (I'm still trying to figure that one out!)
I'm grateful for my mom, who still takes care of me. Who loves my kids unconditionally, helps us out by watching them so often and laughs with us daily.
I'm grateful for my In-Laws, Don & Linda, who have always been supportive of Mike & I, have helped us along the way and who make our kids a priority.
I'm thankful for so many friends and "family" that we have made from not 1, but 2 different churches in our lifetime. We have a great church family in Pennsylvania that we love and miss dearly and a church that we appreciate here in Ohio. I often wonder how people can "cope" without such a supportive and caring community.
I am grateful for those who genuinely care about me. Who ask me how I am, and really want to know, who pray for me, love me and listen to me. I miss those that I don't see often and am beyond grateful for those I have in my life now.
I am thankful for having fun neighbors, The Webster's, who put up with my girls on a minute by minute basis, who call me when my garage door is up at 10:00 at night, who calls me for a cup of sugar, and let's me know when it seems that some creepy guy is scoping the neighborhood (even if it's only your uncle) And...Steph is so easy to talk to. Life is easier when you enjoy your neighbors.
I'm thankful that I can wake up everyday and take another breath in a free country
I'm blessed because I have so many different opportunities each day to make a positive influence in the life of 2 little girls - and eventually on their future. I fail, but I also succeed.

I'm beyond blessed - I often don't recognize them every day - and those times when I don't feel I'm being blessed - I know God's got it all under control as long as I'm trusting in Him...

So that's just what I'll do.

Too Big for Words...

Before today I would have told you I was looking forward to Olivia going to school - all day.
Before today I would have told you I want my kids to be older - more independent.
Before today I would have told you that it seems like forever that my kids were babies.
Before today I would have told you that my girls will always have separation issues - with Mommy.
Before today I would have told you I would not feel too terribly emotional when my kids start school - just maybe a little sad - for only a few minutes.
Before today I would have told you that I can't WAIT to be by myself all day - getting my own thing done - for once.

Then today happened.

Olivia started Kindergarten - and to top my day off (as silly as this sounds) I took Morgan to the Dentist and she went back with them all by herself - with no tears, and no looking back.

So, after today let me just say:

I want my girls to stop growing, to stay little, to be dependent on and want to be with their mom. While I am so excited for Olivia to learn and develop into her own, I will always miss the stage where it was just us. I will forever regret time I could have, but I didn't. I will always love today for showing me how much I love my girls - but hate today for coming so quickly. I will always remember what it felt like today when I watched Olivia walk up the steps to her class room in excitement and I walked away feeling like someone kicked me in the stomach.

I know it's life. I know they grow. It just came a little too fast.

We just got back home a couple days ago from a nice 3 day get-away to the Chicago area to see my brother Ryan, and to do some fun things with the girls. It's good to be home...but we had a lot of fun. I said once our trip started that I realize now that a vacation isn't a vacation unless you go without kids...but, it is fun seeing things through your kids eyes!

We spent most of our time in Joliet, but also ventured out to Aurora (Outlet Mall), and into the city the day we left. American Girl was our #1 stop, but we also stopped at Ghirardelli for some Ice Cream, Millennium Park to let the girls play in the water, and a LOT of walking from Union Station (on probably the MOST humid day of the year!)...and a Taxi back!

I'm looking so forward to getting out of town, even if it's only for a couple days! On August 6th we are heading to Chicago to see my brother (who lives in Joliet). We've decided to take the train out - I think it will be a fun experience and something the girls will enjoy.

We'll take the train into Union Station in Chicago and spend a little time in the city - hopefully at these places:

Where Have I Been?

I know, I know...I haven't blogged in a long time! I've gotta be honest with you...aside from the usual busyness that Summer brings, I've been a bit - preoccupied - with something else.

A friend of mine has been after me for quite a while to read the Twilight series. I have to admit, I am not a sci-fi kind of girl...don't like Aliens books/movies, or anything other than books/movies involving humans, however I respected this person's opinion so much and her excitement when she talked about it just made me fall into her trap!

I started reading the first book and it took me a few nights to get into it...I would start at night and was so tired that I would fall asleep, but then I reached a point where I just couldn't put the book down. I just finished the last book today. There are 2,379 pages total in the 4 book Twilight series. It took me 2 weeks.

I've seen the movie 3 times, in my opinion you have to watch it more than once, it gets better. AND, also my opinion, don't watch the movie without reading the book first - the book is SO much better - but can give a lot of insight to the movie. I plan on watching it again soon...and have great anticipation for the next movie, "New Moon", to come out November 20th.

So, where have I been? Getting sucked into the Cullen clan - and if you're a reader looking for some new reading material, I highly suggest you do the same!

I'm tossing around the idea of getting this t-shirt...;) What do you think?

Kindergarten - Here She Comes!!

Olivia is now officially allowed to enter Kindergarten. She recently got her shots and as you can see...did awesome! She actually wanted to watch and then gave a nice thumbs up after it was over. She has always dreaded shots (not that anyone looks forward to them) but she screams when she gets them! I was so glad she did so well.

Big Yellow Bus

We made a decision to send Olivia to Lake Schools starting this Fall instead of Northwood, and while we struggled a little over which was the best choice, I feel very 100% comfortable with this decision. This summer for 3 weeks Liv has had the opportunity to go to a program at the school called Summer SOAR. It prepares them for the next year and since this would be Liv's first time at the school with new teachers, I thought it would be good for her to get acclimated with everything before Fall. This is her last week and she absolutely LOVES it...she'll be sad to see it end. In making the choice to send her to Lake, one thing we have to sacrifice is to take her to and pick her up from school each day (this was a tough decision since the Northwood bus stop is in our driveway!). Some friends of ours have a son, Jarrett, who is going into Kindergarten with Olivia and doesn't live too far from our house. So, Angie (Jarrett's mom) has been picking Olivia up and I've been bringing them home. BUT, this week they decided they wanted to ride the bus!

WHAT????

I remember about 5 years ago when our neighbor's daughter got on the bus for the first time when she went to Kindergarten. I barely knew them and as she got on the bus and waved to her parents (as they were snapping pictures and video taping) I was very emotional.

Now, it's my turn. I can hardly believe that time has come.

Olivia was SO very excited to ride the bus (I don't think it will last long) she could hardly wait to go to school this morning.

So, I'm THAT mom who not only took pictures of her getting on the bus, but then went to the school to watch her get off the bus. *sigh*

I texted Mike:

Me: "Our baby got on a Bus"
Mike: "Did you cry?"
Me: "No...but I wanted to..."

YES!!!

A budget is something I wish Mike & I would have started our marriage with! But...7 years into it is better than 30...right? We sat down today (something I'm sure he was dying to do on his day off) and made a budget. YIKES!

While we knew for a fact that we were going to look at each other in disbelief, we didn't know the bottom line of where things stood. We have been terrible about getting our finances in order, but today we've made a vow that we will do this budget and as Dave Ramsey says, "live like no one else so eventually we can live like no one else"! I know it's going to be very tough...we are both spenders, I thoroughly enjoy giving to others and I like my casual drive with Morgan to the "Big Mall" where I inevitably end up spending money on something I don't need.

I know for a fact that if we give our tithe FIRST, pay off our debt, and save...we'll be so much better in the long run. I'm not calling this a "diet" for our finances (as some people do), because we all know how well I do with that!!! We know this means saying "no" to many things and many people. This truly has to have a huge amount of discipline, and changes, and I'm very optimistic right now.

We will be debt free!

I wanted to post this because so many of you prayed for this little boy and his parents!

Can you believe it's been a year ago that Heidi & Michael Gray met Harrison for the first time as they were getting ready to adopt him? All the turmoil the week held when his birth mom decided she wanted to keep him...the emotions we all had as we road the roller coaster with them and prayed for this family & the birth mom to make the best decision for Harrison. Ugh...I can vividly remember the feelings I had as they were going through as if this child were my very own!

God worked in the lives of the Gray's and Harrison's birth mom and we rejoiced when Harrison officially became a GRAY.

Happy Birthday Harrison Michael Gray!!! What a blessing you are...

Morgan's Party

Sunday was Morgan's 3rd Birthday Party (my how time flies!) and we had a great time celebrating with family and friends! The weather was in the 70's but the wind made it a bit chilly...however the kids had fun swimming in the 86 degree pool and Morgan definitely enjoyed her special day!

Today we got to take a dip in the pool for the first time. Well, Mike and the girls did. I'm a baby and like the water above 85 and we got it to about 82 today...still a little chilly...but they didn't mind at all - they couldn't wait!

We've been doing a lot of preparing for Morgan's party tomorrow so it was a long day...around 7 they had a bath and by the time 7:30 came we found both girls like this...

Morgan was at the bottom of the steps - fast asleep - and when I came down from taking her to bed Olivia was sleeping on the couch.

It was a good, productive day...but a long one!

New Pool Liner

The new pool liner got installed today! Yea! Mike had to measure the pool 3 times to get the right measurements of our oddly shaped pool and thankfully he was spot on...he decided to do it himself to save some cash and he did a great job!

A HUGE shout out to my Uncle Mickey who ALWAYS helps us when we need him for projects, I love him dearly and I don't know what we'd do without him!

My Grazers

I was impressed at how nice today turned out after the big storm last night! We took advantage of it and went for a walk over to the mall while the girls led (or sometimes followed) on their bikes. It was windy (surprise, surprise) but nice!

The Woodville Mall leaves so much to be desired...the place only survives because of it's box stores, like Anderson's and Sears, I'm really surprised Elder Beerman is even still there! But, we LOVE Anderson's Market and the girls especially LOVE going and grazing at their fruit samples. So...that's what we did.

If they're going to graze on something...let it be fruit!

A Feel Good Heart

I gotta tell ya....it's an amazing thing when you do something you never thought you could do. It really is true what they say about being able to do anything you put your mind to.

I am by no means a runner! However, I have had the best workouts lately with doing walk/jog intervals. I have been able to work out for well over a half hour after I have reached my target heart rate (which is about 50-55 minutes total) and have been burning lots of calories and inches by doing this interval training. I literally feel like my heart (which yes, is a muscle) has had such a great workout and it pumps better with richer blood (I know, nice depiction!).

I am really enjoying pushing myself lately with what I have willed myself to do. I'm sure I don't look like an elegant runner on the treadmill...but I've worked myself up from doing 1 minute jog/2 minute rest intervals to doing 1 1/2 to 2 minute jog/2 minute rest intervals. I'm not training for anything specific, just pushing myself. Someday I'll be able to run 10 minutes straight...wow...that would be an accomplishment for me!

Sisters

I was walking into the other room this afternoon and the girls sitting on the couch caught my attention. They had been outside all morning playing and I think they're getting a little tired...so they were cuddled up together on the couch watching TV. This was priceless to me!

The other day Mike, Liv and I were driving home and we called the house...Morgan wanted to talk to Olivia so I gave her the phone. It was the cutest conversation and made Mike & I laugh to hear them talk to each other. Of course they have their moments, but for the most part, they get along quite well...Morgan adores her big sister and Olivia really watches out for Morgan.

I love watching them together during moments like this...I hope they'll always be best friends.

I'm sitting here getting ready to leave the house...but thought I'd share a few random thoughts on my mind right now.

*I love warm weather. Not HOT weather.
*I don't enjoy sweating while I'm sitting doing nothing...only at the gym when I work for it.
*I turned 33. I used to think 33 was old.
*I'm at a good mental place in my life.
*I secretly can't decide whether to have another baby (guess it's not a secret anymore)
*I have never been so thankful that I am SAVED...
*and constantly think of those who aren't and wonder what it takes for people to get it...

Our Green Pool

Sadly, this is what our pool looks like. We knew it was green, we think the cover wasn't the best and had a hole in it...so this is the result. UGH!

Needless to say, we are getting a new liner. I can't wait till it's clean and has sparkling blue water! Ahhhh....

Boutique Tutu

So, I've been looking for Pettiskirts for the girls for a photo shoot, however, they are so pricey to buy and too hard for myself to make. So...I decided instead to make some boutique style tutu's. Here's the end result...they will wear leggings with them. I'll be sure to share the pics once we get them taken.

I am part of our church worship planning team. That means we meet every Tuesday night to plan what elements we can use in our services to help people meet/engage/reunite/connect/worship God. It's a hard task.

We need to come up with different ideas every week for a minimum of 52 weeks a year
For over 900 different people who have different thoughts/ideas/opinions...
It needs to be Relevant, yet meaningful...
It needs to have flow and not become mundane
It needs to serve a purpose...a very important purpose.
It's not about us. It's about Him!

We're excited about our Easter services! Come and hear about the hope that comes because of Easter. If you do not have a home church and/or looking for a place to attend, we'd love to have you at Mainstreet. Good Friday service is at 7:00 pm. Sunday morning Easter services are 9:00, 10:30 and 12:00.

This is my friend Tricia. We went to High School together and have recently started up a friendship again (we work out together). More and more I've been hearing of people I know losing their jobs, getting laid off, getting hours cut...she's one of them.

I went to a "sale" this weekend trying to find some good deals...only to find out it wasn't that "cheap" and people were walking out with carts full to the brim with "stuff". I've heard we're in a recession. Really?!?! You would have never been able to tell me at Christmas time that we were in a recession...at least not everywhere that I shopped. Are we in a recession? Are we all up to our eyeballs in debt?

Someone please explain it to me, because I don't get it.

You Should See the Other Guy!

My mom was standing at our pantry as Morgan came around the corner and ran into the door which in turn smacked my mom in the eye. My mom bruises SO easily. If she would only put some purple eyeshadow on the other eye...she'd just look like she was wearing heavy makeup!

Needless to say, Morgan feels terrible.

Learn The Heimlich!

Saturday afternoon we had a very scary experience.

I took the girls to visit my Grandma and while we were there, Morgan ate a lifesaver. She has had lifesavers, mints...all hard candies before, so I really gave it NO thought. I'm not sure if she sucked in wrong, or what exactly happened, but she choked on the lifesaver. Once we realized she was choking, her lips were turning blue and she was visibly in distress. I was holding my 5 month old cousin so my mom started giving her the Heimlich Maneuver right away. I panicked. She had to do this for quite some time before she started coughing and then some more until the lifesaver finally dislodged and she choked it up. She was, as you can imagine, VERY scared (as were we).

Thankfully my mom knew to take action quick! I would have tried to do the Heimlich, but have to admit, I need to read up on exactly what to do. You too can read up on what to do by clicking here.

Yes...I have a new look. I've had many comments on my new hair, and new glasses. I could possibly become addicted to new specs. My hair is much blonder...thanks to the excellent work of my absolutely wonderful stylist Mackenzie!

Here's a tip if you like cheap trendy glasses. Go to Zenni Optical by clicking here and find a nice cheap (complete) pair of glasses...we're talking around $30 for a complete pair. NICE!

7 Year Itch

What better to blog about in my 200th blog, but Mike and I's 7th anniversary!

7 years ago today...

*it was the perfect wedding...

*it was sunny & chilly

*a 2:30 wedding

*at Mainstreet Church 705 campus

*My dad walked me down the aisle

*the reception was at Oak Shade Grove

*Mike cried - (for good reasons!)

*I never had so many bobby pins in my hair at one time

*we had the best friends standing up for us

*Marty (our pastor) had hair and it was dark

*it was a day I will never forget and I will always re-live

*I vowed to spend the rest of my life loving my best friend.

*I went from Lisa Dunn to Lisa Feather (no s for those of you who still call me Lisa Feathers)

*Mike was 23 and I was 25

*it really was the perfect wedding!

I'm so blessed!

'Old' Friends

Mike and I are in the Chambersburg/Gettysburg/Hanover PA area for the weekend for a wedding and we were able to stop and visit some friends from college. Annette and I were suite-mates at Huntington and her husband Aaron also went to HU. We have stayed in touch for years, we email/blog/facebook back & forth quite frequently and this is the first time we've seen each other in over 10 years. It was so nice to be able to catch up and talk about the old college days.

Isn't it amazing that no one in the entire world has another fingerprint that looks exactly like yours? Even identical twins, who share the same DNA, have different fingerprints.

I was looking at a scar on my thumb from when I was little, and I just started reflecting on my fingerprint. A swirl of patterns...that can identify who I am. A swirl of patterns that are only on the tips of your fingers that help with traction so things don't slip through our fingers. A swirl of patterns that we receive at 3 months gestation...that's BEFORE birth!!! This fascinates me!

Take a minute and look at your fingerprint...and ask yourself...,"What am I leaving my 'mark' on?" because you're the only one who can leave your mark!

This is a great recipe...and on old one (back to the old church potluck days!)

My friend Shelly got me hooked on it again...and when I'm craving something sweet, this is what I make.

1 Can crushed pineapple (in unsweetened juice)

1 box Pistachio Pudding Mix

1 -8 ounce container lite or fat free cool whip (The picture shown is 16 ounces...but I use 8)

1 Cup Colored Marshmallows

I mix the pineapple and pudding mix together first, then add the cool whip (I like to add mine frozen, especially if you're going to eat it right away),

then add the marshmallows

and mix together. Chill and enjoy!

As what usually happens, I ended up gaining back some of the weight I had worked so hard to lose last Fall/Summer...but not giving up completely, I kept going to the gym. (Though not as often as I was) I seemed out of control, but desperately wanted to still be in control. Last Monday our class at the gym started the "Biggest Loser" contest...we aren't necessarily doing the Biggest Loser Diet, but we are working out harder, doing challenges and being pushed beyond what we think we can do. And my body aches!

I have really been enjoying it...never thought I would say that!

So...I promise to keep you updated...and I can use all the accountability I can get.

With the start of this challenge, as of today, I'm down 7.5 lbs.

Our meal swap was a long day, but a lot of fun. All in all it was great and for 7 meals it cost about $61 per mom. Not bad!

Inhale, our moms group, has been making some really great practical things to use at home...cheap and easy. We've made laundry detergent that I love and am still making. Today we made an All purpose cleaner and Windex.

It made me want to come home and clean away. They worked great!

Trip to the Doctor

Out of thin air, Olivia came down with allergies this week. We aren't sure what she is allergic too...but her symptoms were bad! Terrible sneezing, awful puffy eyes and a pounding head. Let's hope we can find out the source of the allergies so we can steer clear...however, the doctor said sometimes you never know. Good thing for Benadryl...

For game night this month, friends of ours let us borrow Rock Band. Mike and I had never had the privilege of playing this (or guitar hero), so we were really bad, I mean new at it. I think we caught on pretty quick...and dared to move away from Weezer...onto something a little more challenging...like Bon Jovi! :)

Game night was fun...all the guys wanted to play was Rock Band...forget board games (or parlor games for my lovely college roommate!) Needless to say, by the end of the night my head was hurting from watching that screen so much! I tend to prefer the drums...I'm now addicted and think I'm cool, when in reality I can't get past "easy".

Dear God...

Shortly after each of my girls were born we dedicated them to you. Gave them back to you. We know they are only "on loan" to us. We promised to teach them about you, to love them every day, to try our best to raise them with the love and knowledge of who you are.

It's hard.

I want to be patient, loving, kind, gentle, always saying and doing what is right...but I don't. I want to have all the answers, I want to let them be kids and not expect them to be older than they are or know more than they do....but sometimes I don't. I want my kids to see the positive example I set in ALL that I do and want them to be just like me...but it's not always positive. I want to make time. I want to sacrifice for them. I want to read to them more, pray with them more, play with them more...and remember more how -f a s t- time is going.

I've never had such a responsibility this huge. Never a love like this. And you've given them to ME. You chose ME to help raise these extremely beautiful, bright, funny, whinny, loud, stubborn...wonderful girls. THANK YOU GOD! Thank you God...

Help me be what you have created me to be as the lucky mother of these two girls. And may I consider them a blessing...every day.

I blogged a few months back about our friends Greg & Melanie who have been trying for 4 years to have a baby, and the sadness they've had from 3 miscarriages. It's a pleasure for me to introduce Madelyn Jane Smith to you. She was born on Monday in the middle of an ice storm in Kentucky (but at the hospital!) Thankfully the doctor induced Mel a few days early and they weren't trapped in their home during the storm (which still has no electricity!)

She's definitely a miracle, who came when God thought it was time!

Olivia & Kaley's Sleepover

Technically it wasn't Olivia's 1st Sleepover with a friend (Scotie Otley stayed the night before...but he's also like a brother), but Olivia was so excited to have Kaley stay the night Sunday night that I knew I needed to wait until just before Kaley was coming over to tell her.

I just thought I'd share a couple pictures, Morgan was equally as excited that Kaley was spending the night and she wanted to do everything they did! They danced around for quite a while in their PJ's then we blew up a big air mattress on the girls' bedroom floor, made some popcorn, popped in Alvin & the Chipmunks and they drifted off to sleep around 10:00. The next morning the girls helped make their breakfast (scrambled eggs) and then we headed to the gym.

Losing a tooth and a sleepover in the same weekend. Where did my baby go?

(Yes, I still use Sippy Cups for chocolate milk...easier to mix...they didn't care!)

Olivia lost her first tooth yesterday. When I realized 2 weeks ago that it was loose, I could hardly believe it. I almost thought something might be wrong because I couldn't come to grips with the fact that she could possible be that old. But...she is.

She was very excited that it "finally fell out"...and even more exited that the tooth fairy left her 1 dollar bill and 4 quarters.

I just can't get this out of my head. I've been watching the details all morning. What an amazing day in NYC yesterday on the Hudson River as AA Flight 1549 had to make an emergency landing in the water. Everyone survived.

I can't help but relate it to our relationship with Christ. The take-off might be easy and smooth, but things come at us that may cause a bumpy ride. But...when you put your trust in the "pilot", you'll land smooth with the ability to stand on His wings for safety. Thank God for the knowledge he gave to the pilot of Flight 1549, and for those who react quickly in disaster situations. I am just in awe.

Here are a few random things...

Everyone in my family LOVES chocolate! I simply can't/don't understand those who say they don't like sweets or at least chocolate...I really can't relate. Sometimes I wish I could. But, my girls took it to a whole new level this week. I was making some yummy brownies (fat free ones...I'll post the recipe below) and as Olivia was licking the spoon, a little got on Morgan's forehead...but that didn't stop Olivia!

I made Tofu for the first time in my existence the other day...trying to try new things...eat different "healthy" foods...it will be the last time ever willingly eat Tofu. The recipe didn't look too bad...actually smelled very good...but the taste sent me into disgust.

And I sit here inside while it's barreling down snow outside. We've got quite a bit...and the fun game night we had planned with friends tonight is rescheduled. I simply do not like snow. Let it flurry for a day and I'm happy to call that Winter and move on. Fortunately, Mike and the girls love it and will be excited to go sledding later today...maybe I'll go just to sit in the warm car and take pictures!

First let me explain that the Dunn side of our family has a tradition of going to the truck stops at midnight to have dinner together on Christmas Eve. This year we took the girls, we went around 10:45 and sat and played games to keep ourselves awake, we got home and in bed around 1:00 and the girls decided they still needed to get up around 6:30.

Despite being completely exhausted, it was such a great day.

We began our morning by opening Baby Jesus, laying him in the empty manger under the tree and singing Happy Birthday. It's very important to us that he be the first gift we open on Christmas...so the girls completely understand the reason for the celebration.

We enjoyed unwrapping gifts together, the girls had a blast and Mike enjoyed his new gift from his parents and me...an Acer netbook he's been wanting for quite some time.

I was very excited to get a new point and shoot camera...so I don't always have to lug our digital SLR around everywhere. It's a great camera! Mike also received a couple fun new Wii games (Super Mario Cart and Family Game Night) so we had fun chillin' playing games this morning!

In the afternoon we went to my Aunt Bobbie's and had fun eating (way too much), opening presents and playing games. The girls had a BLAST playing Princess Bingo with Aunt Tammy and Jacey.

We got to love on Baby Jordyn (my cousin)

And spend time with people we love!

As if the week couldn't get much better, we're travelling to PA tomorrow to spend Christmas with Mike's family and I'll get to spend some much needed time with my best friend Heather.

I can't wait!

I always seem to lose my mind when I get an idea to take family pictures. We usually have to take some time to pray for patience before we start. I decided since it was the middle of December we should think about getting a picture done to send our annual picture and letter, so we headed over to my mom's work in hopes of getting a perfect Christmas picture in 10 minutes, and return home to enjoy a Friday night with the family watching movies.

Hahahaha.

While Mike and I are usually the ones who take our girls pictures, we wanted to try a family picture, so we had my mom behind the camera. All apart from standing on her head to get a great shot of all of us smiling, with hands in our laps like perfect little angels, she tried to work magic with 2 uncooperative little ones. Olivia just wasn't sure how she should smile...too much teeth, no teeth showing, a little smile, a whole face grin...etc. and Morgan just wasn't sure she wanted to smile (or sit) at all.

After 45 minutes and all of us out of patience, we decided to leave and maybe work with something we took. I got home and looked through the pictures and just couldn't find one that stuck out to me. I did a Christmas card in Photoshop and came up with something I actually thought turned out decent. At least it wasn't all a wash!

But, I'll save it for later!

Breakfast With Santa

This past Saturday I was able to slip away in the middle of a busy weekend of musical performances to go with my mom & the girls to breakfast with Santa at Clay High School. They were very excited...Olivia was even more thrilled to have a sleepover with her friend Scotie who went with us.

The girls don't tell Santa anything they want...Olivia says whatever he wants to bring her would be fine. She said she knows she has enough toys. That's what I like to hear.

A Bigger Picture

I wouldn't consider myself an overly emotional person.
I mean that in the sense of getting teary at "simple" things...for instance, we constantly tease my mom for crying every time she watches Hallmark or Folgers commercials.

*However*

I have a burden and a deep sense of sorrow for people I know...or don't know...going through various "hard times". Many of us will walk down a path of grief in our lives, a time of loss, a time of financial difficulty, emotional distress, hard decisions, job loss, sickness...

I recently heard of this guy...

And I'm full of sorrow. I hear his daughter speak those words and I picture what it would be like if it were my family. The good news in this story is he's in a win/win situation. He knows Jesus Christ personally and if the cancer takes him home soon to be with Jesus, he wins.

I'm in a mood this Christmas to not spend a lot of money on my kids for things they don't need...but rather giving to the "Randy Miller's", who are in need. I know a lot of people who "adopt" a family around Christmas, helping those who have very little...I applaud you. I know you don't care what I think...but I'm very grateful to those of you who look at the bigger picture. Have you failed?

I've failed so many times at lots of things...but the one thing that gets me every day is my struggle with losing weight. I haven't ate the best in the last few months and after my knee injury taking the same class at the gym has been tough. However, I still get my butt there to do something...even if I can just walk on the treadmill or ride the bike. I know I fail...but it's all steps I'm taking to hopefully someday reach success! I know it won't happen overnight. I love the way this video helps me understand that even if you're the "greatest"...you took steps backward to get ahead!

The Countdown

The countdown to Christmas Eve and Christmas Day has begun at our house. We have many things that reference when that day will finally get here. We have the old school paper link chain that my friend Jess re-introduced to the girls while we were in PA for Thanksgiving...a perfect activity for children who love to cut, glue and/or staple!

We also have a little snowman that we hang on the wall with the countdown in it...the girls move the candy cane to the the number of days left each morning...

And of course the cardboard treasures that hang on our wall with a little Chocolate treat inside each window with again, the number of days left. This is the only time of year they are allowed to eat a little piece of chocolate every morning, even before breakfast. It's fun for them to search for the right number, tear open the window and see what kind of candy is inside.

One of our neighbor's even has a sign in his front lawn with the countdown until Christmas...not only the number of days...but of hours, minutes and seconds as well.

Why?

Why do we count down to December 25th? Sure kids love the idea of some mysterious big man in a nice shiny red suit that they never get to see bringing them everything they've always wanted (at least for this year). And I'm sure quite a few adults love receiving nice gifts as well...and many enjoy just giving. There's the crazy people, myself included, who get up at insane hours of the morning on Black Friday, just to get a deal on those "must have" Christmas presents. Yes, my kids think there's a man named Santa who brings them a gift or two and then mom and dad and Nonny & other family & friends give them gifts as well...but there's one special reason we count down to December 25th.

The very first present we open is Baby Jesus, the girls lay him in the manger and we read the true story of Christmas. It's very important to us that above all the hype of Christmas presents and the warm and fuzzy's we get from the holiday season that we step back and constantly remember what it's all for. Not just on Christmas morning...but every morning.

Heading to PA

We're heading out to Pennsylvania this morning to have Thanksgiving with Mike's parents and of course for my mom and I to get a little Christmas shopping done! I heard on the news this morning that there are 3,000 airplanes in the air at this very moment and about 50,000 through-out the course of the day! Let's hope the roads are a little less crowded.

The above picture tells exactly how I used to feel when we would travel. Since the girls were little I have always taken just about all they own with us (you never know if they just might need 5 blankets instead of 1!) When they were little it was all the big stuff...the bouncy seat, the pack n' play, the bathtub, etc...and now...thankfully...our load keeps getting lighter (no pack n' play, no diapers or diaper bag). I'm looking forward to going away and enjoying some time together as a family...I truly am thankful for all we have.

Enjoy your holiday together with your families...especially if you really aren't looking forward to getting together with Great Aunt Ethel or that uncle you can't stand...make the best of it, and be thankful!

I heart the Neti Pot!

I, among the hundreds of people I seem to have come in contact with lately, have a sinus infection. I have the head pressure, the nose pressure...the sneezing, the drainage, stuffiness, etc. I just simply want to curl up in a ball in my bed, close my eyes and wake up only when it's over.

I was asking some friends for any home remedies they might be able to suggest and someone suggested the Neti Pot. Just the name gave me the feeling that I was going to have to go undercover and buy it on the streets somewhere, but hey, I was willing to try anything. However, she assured me I could buy it at any Health Food store and since GNC is one of about 2 stores left open at the Woodville Mall...I decided I'd give it a shot. I was very excited that they knew what I was talking about when I whispered "Do you have a Neti Pot", still cautious I would instantly be hauled off in handcuffs for asking for such a thing. But, I walked out of GNC with my $12 Neti Pot and headed home hoping to get some relief!

When I got home with my new friend I quickly realized how awkward this product was and how dumb I was going to look doing it...but again, anything for relief! Here's what my new friend looks like:

It looks like a little genie in a bottle. You open a packet of the solution (which is Sodium Bicarbonate & Sodium Chloride) and pour it into the bottle and add Lukewarm water. Stir it until the powder dissolves and then the fun begins. You insert the end of the bottle into one nostril, tilt your head sideways so that the water will drain out the opposite nostril.

Once all the water drains, you blow out your nose into the sink to release all the mucus. Repeat on the other nostril and then finally blow your nose into a tissue to get rid of excess water and mucus. Ahhhhh...sounds wierd, but I had quick, wonderful, instant relief. Repeat as necessary.

Tornado Clean-Up

It literally looked as if an F-5 Tornado made it's way through the girls play room. It's looked this way for quite some time...but I just close the door and pretend it doesn't exist. Today was the day I needed to face it and get rid of a lot of things they don't play with...or things that no longer work. Here's what I started with...

And 2 hours later...

I took 5 bags of "stuff" to be given away and 1 bag of garbage out of this little room. And it makes me a little uneasy knowing that my girls are now playing in that nice clean room. I just wanted to enjoy it's neatness for a few minutes...

Rubbin' Elbows

I went to an e-women conference this past weekend in Sterling Heights, Michigan and was very excited to meet a few ladies I have quite a "thing" for! While some of you may not be familiar with these ladies...they play a big part in my life!

Karen Kingsbury is a Christian author who wrote my favorite series ever...The Baxter Series!!! I was quite excited. My mom owns every one of her books...she really is an extraordinary author and I'd recommend any of her books...great reads!

Angela Thomas is another speaker who I was very excited to "rub elbows" with. Angela is an amazing Christian speaker & author who has written a DVD series called "Beautiful Offering" that our moms group has been doing and another called "Do you think I'm Beautiful" that I hope to do next time around. She is a very down to earth hilarious lady and I was so excited to meet her!

We had such a great time! Some of the other extraordinary speakers were Carol Kent, Chonda Pierce, Thelma Wells, and concerts by Avalon and Denver & the Mile High Orchestra.
